The Camp
When I was eight years old my grandad bought a holiday camp set on a clifftop in Devon which my Dad & Step-Mum went on to run for 30 years. The camp was special to me, not just because it was a magical place to grow up, but because it came after a difficult year. It became so important to me in more ways than one - not only did it have a magical setting, which made it the most exciting place a child could be, but more than that it contained people who gave the place its heart and soul. When the Camp finally closed in 2007 it felt important to record not only the history and memories of the camp but also to convey the feelings I had of the place.
I knew I had a story to tell but I didn't know how to tell it. This led me to the MA in Sequential Design/Illustration at the University of Brighton where I graduated in September 2015 with a short film, a 140 page book, a Distinction and a feeling of having captured exactly what I wanted to capture. I now tell stories using illustration, animation, and writing - and most importantly - using the emotion beneath the story.
